nightmare is now over. the second bombing suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev is in the hospital. he was captured after a two hour standoff. he was found hiding in a boat in a backyard. a few minutes we will go live to the hospital where the 19- year-old is being treated under heavy police security. there is also new information about his where abouts right after the bombing. also a live report on how the bay area will show support to the bombing victims. first let's go to claudine with a run down of the events. >> reporter: we want to take you through the event that led to the capture of the 19-year- old dzhokhar tsarnaev. we got a first look at the teen who had been called suspect two at first. these are the areas that we are talking about. these are the first two pictures we got about 5:20 on thursday night. fbi released the images and video. suspect one was in the black hat, that was the older brother tamerlan tsarnaev. about five hours later we got reports of shots in cambridge. now let's talk about that. university police officer sean collier was shot at cambridge. this is the area. he late

[ bagpipes ] >> reporter: later, the fbi handed control of boylston street back to the city of boston. from his hospital bed, the 19- year-old suspect, dzhokhar tsarnaev, made his first appearance in front of a magistrate judge. tsarnaev is now charged with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction. in addition to the surveillance video the fbi shared with the public, a special agent testified the younger brother, dzhokhar, can be seen apparently slipping his knapsack onto the ground shortly before the explosion. but the white house announced tsarnaev won't be tried in a military tribunal as an enemy combatant. >> we will prosecute this suspect under u.s. law. u
could be charged at his hospital bed side on sunday. dzhokhar tsarnaev is still in serious condition. he is sedated with a tube down his throat and unable to speak. although massachusetts does not have the death penalty, prosecutors could seek capital punishment at the federal level. >> given the facts that i've seen, it would be appropriate to use the death penalty in this case. i hope they would apply it in federal court. >> reporter: more questions are being raised about the suspect and if the fbi did enough before the bombings. in 2011, it interviewed the older brother, tamerlan tsarnaev, after russian authorities alerted the u.s. government. he made a trip to russian in 2012. >> the ball was dropped in two ways. the fbi missed things or our laws do not allow the fbi to follow up in a sound solid way. >> reporter: while officials cyst through the details worshipers sought answers in their own way gathering at the holy cross on sunday to reflect on the terror that the city faced in the last week. the governor says there can be vigilance without fear. >> there are lessons that we will

a description of a still unreleased fbi video. according to those familiar with what it shows, dzhokhar tsarnaev can be seen removing his backpack at the spot where the second bomb was placed, and acting very differently from those around him when e first bomb blew up. >> this suspect took the backpack off, put it down, did not react when the first explosion went off, and then moved away from the backpack in time for the second explosion. >> federal officials say in the hours after the fbi released photos of the bombing suspects thursday night, investigators had not yet matched any names to their pictures and, in fact, did not even have the tsarnaev brothers in any terrorist data base. only after the older brother was killed in the late night shootout in watertown were agents able to check his fingerprints and put actual names to their case. fbi agents are seeking to interview all the family members and friends of the two brothers, including the wife of the older one, tamerlan. her lawyer says he is talking to federal authorities about how to proceed. matt? >> pete williams, thank you very much.
